I don't know whether this girl has an account here on Mse but if she hasn't maybe she should sign up.
I've just been listening to her getting interviewed on the radio and she said when she was planning her wedding she realised that so many times today people spend just so they can go one better than when friends or neighbours got married. She decided rather than pay for flashy cars she'd get the train. Where she lived was only a short walk to the station and then getting off at Central station wasn't far from St Georges Hall in Liverpool so she could walk again.
When she mentioned about hoping the train would be on time at her local station they decided to make her day special by laying on a special train just for her and her guests and decorating it.

Isnt it a Sunday? You should easily be on time!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

This post took me back to 13th August 1975. DH and I went to registry office on a bus and the bus back. Honeymoon at Reading Festival (currently on the TV). Total outlay for the wedding was £7.50!Debt September 2020 BIG FAT ZERO!
Now mortgage free, sort of retired, reducing and reusing and putting money away for grandchildren...0 -

You beat me there
When I got married in 1992 (second time for both of us), we had a RO wedding, and a reception (= nice meal and a few speeches) at a local restaurant for immediate family and a couple of friends. Total bill was under £200.
I simply cannot understand a young couple spending the price of a car or a house deposit on a fancy wedding (not to mention a Hello-style honeymoon). And a lot get into debt to do so, which seems madness to me.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
