I getting a new router from Virginmedia and it has simultaneous 2.4 and 5ghz wifi.
Any recommendations for a suitable USB 5ghz adapter?
There are sometimes 9 wifi networks where I stay and whenever I find a clear channel within half an hour an annoying neighbour changes to that as well.
They have BT internet.
Does BT have 5 ghz wifi?
If not lets see them occupy the same channel as me.
There are 3 Virginmedia networks near me, my next door neighbour's wifi router is through the wall from my TV and I think that is why my Sky box wifi catchup sometimes loses its settings as their signal strength is stronger than mine.

There are 23 channels on 5GHz so you should be OK if you need to find one without too much congestion.
Just be aware that the higher the frequencies the quicker it degrades so you don't get the kind of range you get from 2.4 out of 5.
As for your Sky box going wrong that wouldn't happen at all unless they have identical SSIDs and I mean identical, right down the capital letters. It will look for your SSID and connect to that. If you have the same SSID then it will look for whichever has the stronger signal and try to connect, if it has the wrong password then it will fail authentication. This is only likely to happen if you have a malicious neighbour who has set their SSID to match yours on purpose.
Sorry can't answer your question on adapter, never purchased one.0 -
Search eBay for the Netgear WNDA3200, it is the Virgin Media branded stick that they sell themselves. Supports both 2.4 and 5GHz N.0

BT is 2.4 and 5ghz on the latest Homehub 5 .0

Ahhhhh, the Virgin Media Super Hub 2....
Which really should be called no more than the 'Mediocre HUB'
They sent me one for a speed upgrade, and I thought great I can do away with my netgear router now...
How wrong could I be, couldn't get Wi-Fi upstairs.
Virgin Media suggested to Hub needs to be pointing the direction the signal needs to be, as there are no aerials on it.
This would be ok but where it is placed it can only go in the orientation it is.
Put the Superhub in modem mode and plugged in my old router and Wi-Fi is all fine again.0 -

I have BT infinity since day one, the standard home hub had come on a long long way, but i dont think it operates on a 5ghz network just 2.4ghz.
Personally i would always recommend changing your HH to your own as you can customise it how you want it to run, and signal stretches a lot further.
There are multiple amounts of routers you can have a look at, you need a router not an adsl router. You can get some that that have the functionality to do both if you.
If you have a multitude of devices, then i would recommend getting the best router that you can afford.
From my months of what to get and unrelaible Netgear routers over the years thats ive owned, there is only one brand i would only go for and that is ASUS. If you check out the reviews on yourtube or google of the RTN66 OR AN RT AC66 OR AC68.
These three routers are first the dogs. Firstly they have everything you could ever want on them. Slick easy to use setup and interface, secondly they all run N or AC 2.4 and 5ghz simultaneously. So you can have two wifi networks running in your house and split for certain devices to connect to.
ASUS do a number of wifi adapters which are amazing value for money.

If you wanted a cheaper alternative TP LINK or your other brand.Kind Regards,

I replaced my netgear dgnd3700v2 for an Asus RT-AC68U a few months ago. Brilliant device and coupled with the Asus PCIE adaptor, brilliant wifi performance too.0
