Carpet hoovering advice wanted

I have a Asda Genie hoover, it was perfect at my olf house as it had laminate, in this flat though I cannot tell if its good or not.

I have a brown/orange like colour carpet that is new, things like small visible crumbs dont seem to be picked up but bigger crumbs are, if I used a small handbrush I can seem to brush up loads of unseen dirt but I dont know if this is because I only do patches in the area I walk but no matter if I do patches or the whole room my hoover gets around half full of dust and lint just from doing the living room, I did the whole flat today on a empty hoover and it filled to the top with lint and the dust filter was coated in dust and had to actually unscrew it to get all the dust and lint out.

I just wondered if since I pick up so much dust and lint it was more the fact the carpet attracks dirt easily rather than the hoover just not going deep enough.

New carpets shed a lot of pile initially, that's why it''s full so quickly. After a few vacs it will settle down.
To get decent cleaning on a carpet you really need an upright machine with a beater bar, as cylinder models rely on suction only, not sure which type yours is?
Own brand vacuum cleaners are rarely very effective-you get what you pay for, and you need to spend around £200 to get a decent model.
