Tonight's tea is pasta - already cooked and in the fridge, with chopped sausages - cooked and defrosting in the fridge, some frozen veg, - and I will add a tin of condensed low fat soup over it all with a sprinkle of cheese and bake in the oven for 20 mins.Newlywed at the point I joined the forum... now newly separated0

Totally support your right to eat whatever you like Graham, I know what it's like when you've had a day like that, the last thing you want to do is start cooking.
I choose to cook from scratch partly because I think ready meals are a rip off and partly because I don't want to put lots of processed stuff into my body. That makes me feel sluggish which is not what you need when you have to fit so much into your day.
An idea you might want to try is to have a big cook-up at the weekends and freeze meal sized portions for the week. You then get the best of both worlds - cheap home cooked food which you can bung in the microwave for 10 minutes when you get home. Things like lasagne, casseroles etc all work really well.

ah graham you really are determined to live up to your bad mother credentials aren't you LOL
One thing though, have you ever considered the health aspects about eating all that processed and packaged foods? Because they are frozen/dried the manufacturers have to put much more salt/fat/preservatives in so that they taste anything like good by the time they are cooked. All that extra stuff you are pumping into your body on a daily basis that really doesn't need to be there. Not trying to preach or anything, just wondered if it's something you have thought about.0 -

I'm only eating salads and stuff at the moment, and to be honest, chicken and fish, fruit etc, cus of the moob reduction scheme.
But when i'm not reducing them I buy everything frozen. Filled omelettes, which I must admit are rubbish, toad in the hole, everything is frozen. In fact all I have in my fridge is wine, lager and milk, jam, cheese and a couple of lonely eggs

:kisses: Hiya, Graham :kisses:
Great to see you on OS! We'll be having you peeling veg and starting a compost heap before you know it, and you'll not want to be back to DT again.

Filled omelettes OMG Graham, omelettes are the easiest thing in the world to make from scratch, takes less than 5 mins and will taste 100 times better than the microwave rubbish!
We love cheese, ham and mushroom filled omelettes, and I must do something good with them because ds's friend asks me to make them for him every time he comes over for tea.0 -

But that is so bad for you!
Both DH and I spend loads of time at work - usually we are out of the house for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week but we still make time to cook everything from scratch. We only have a small freezer though - and if we packed it with ready meaks couldn't even fit a weeks worth of food in there so we'd have to go shopping twice as often.
Take toad in the hole - when you get in from work you could quickly fry off some sausages. Whilst doing this mix up some batter. Pour into a tin and stick in oven. Whilst it's cooking you have about half an hour to have your shower, and do whatever else you want.0 -
Pasta is by definition the ultimate quickie meal!
I've recently discovered that frozen sweetcorn takes the same amount of time to cook as dried pasta... so couple of handfuls of pasta, handful of sweetcorn in the same pan (saves washing up!). I then chop up whatever I've got hanging around in the fridge (toms, spring onions, ham etc) maybe raid the cupboard for some tuna, kidney beans etc.
If I've got to be really quick I do something similar with cous cous as it only takes about 3 minutes to cook instead of 10 (minus the sweetcorn obviously)Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

I must admit I do keep a stack of frozen pizza in my freezer for dire emergencies (and hangovers;)) - but apart from that, if I can't be bothered, don't have time, or don't have many ingredients I just make beans on toast or eggs on toast!
I've always preferred cooking, but would buy prepared during the week as was so busy... Just over a year ago I stopped buying prepared groceries (except the occasional pizza
) and can really feel the benefit! (Lost lbs, saved pounds, clearer skin!) However, I've also made an effort not to drink alcohol during the week, and really cut back on caffeine, so could have something to do with that... :money: I heart Martin! :money:0
