I was told I had a choice of surveyor and solicitor provided it was on HSBC's panel. No problem with this. I just have owners who can't secure a house to save their life!

I was speaking to someone from HSBC last week and they told me their current average turnaround for an advised mortgage application is 6-8 weeks - it's apparently somewhat quicker if you do it online and non-advised. No, you don't have to use Countrywide Conveyancing but our experience with HSBC is that they're slow and unhelpful (see my separate post for the difficulties we're having with them). I would not recommend them to anyone.
