hsbc mortgage

Options
Hi guys,

I have read on here not to get a HSBC mortgage purely because they deal with Countrywide Conveyancing who are terrible and take an extra long time to sort things. I am about to put in an offer on a repossession which comes with a deadline of 28 days to complete.

HSBC are offering the best mortgage for our needs but I am worried that it will take months to complete and i'll lose the house. Has anyone had any dealings with them recently?

Thanks xxxx

28 days is a tough ask, doesn't matter who you decide to place your mortgage with. Why are they imposing this time frame?

You can avoid Countrywide by appointing a solicitor accredited with CQS, the Conveyancing Quality Scheme.

HSBC will accept them and will have them act for the lender too.

Good luck with HSBC and your 28 day turnaround.

I completed on a house at the end of last month and my mortgage is with HSBC/first direct. It was less than two weeks for my full offer to arrive with my solicitor.

I am presuming they must have changed their policies around solicitor choice as of the three solicitor firms in the town I bought they told me to go with whichever one I wanted. I had got the details of all three as I was expecting them to be really picky after all I had read online but they were not. All three of them were on the law society website which is how I found them.

It's a complete myth that you have to use Countrywide, but people reported having to wait long time for an appointment. HSBC offer good deals, so there is a lot of applicants. Also they require 2 interviews in person, and might not be able to fit you in. Unless you are applying on line?
  • Repossessions are better suited to cash buyers who can complete quickly. With the best will in the world 28 days is a very tall order.

We bought a repo using a mortgage with HSBC - and we found them fantastic and really responsive (we had several points were the borrowing amount changed, and they did everything really quickly).

They were the best rate around at the time and we have had no problems with them since either. I can't fault them at all.

We did tell them it was a reposession property.

Have you booked a mortgage appointment yet?

With only 28 days you need to get matters advanced now.
