What would you all want from an Auction Site / Shop Site ?

I'm recently new to this forum, but the general consensus is that everyone is fed up with or annoyed with eBay. (Mainly Sellers)

And from what I have read this is not just UK but worldwide as well.

I guess the time is right for a new eBay to appear.

So my question is "what do you all want from an auction site?"

Reasonable fees ?
Features ?
How feedback should work ?
Would you be willing to help promote the site ?
A name for the new site ?

Any ideas or suggestion is welcomed

I know this is a mammoth task and many have failed but without trying you never know.

If you setup a site that gives sellers all they want then you wont get any buyers.

If you give them reasonable fees you won't make a profit.

Features. Everyone will want something slightly different. I hated ebays updates over the last couple of years and slowly they are reverting back to the way it was. Worse thing they did in my opionion is the collections. Pointless waste of time. Being forced to view items im not interested in is such a waste.

Another gripe. Multi item listings. I HATE THEM... Looking for a product and see one at the right price and find all they are selling is a battery for the item. TERRIBLE...

Promote it, No thats the site owners job, Spend money on advertising. If you dont have a large budget to advertise your going to struggle. Ask Ebid....

Many have tried and failed. Its going to take a lot of money and a VERY secure website to get a foot into the market.

Ive tinkered with some auction software you modify for your own needs and it wasnt that secure.

As a seller what do I want- easy, I want buyers. Unfortunately that is what most of the smaller sites do not have.

Things that sellers don't like are split between legal things, that a new site could not avoid, like a right of return for a change of mind from a business seller etc. that cannot change and minor irritations like a stupid defect system- which can be changed.

However, to attract buyers you would have to assure them that if they are unhappy with a seller that they have full redress, both to get their money back with no quibble and to be able to warn other buyers of their experience.

As a seller even I acknowledge that buyers need rights, otherwise they won't buy. So a safe payment method, some sort of feedback system and /or seller rating system and a clear return policy.

I would dearly love a real alternative to eBay, not necessarily to replace eBay but at least to give me more options on seller platforms.

My opinion is that the ones who try to compete with Ebay fail because they try and replicate the Ebay model. To do well you need a total rethink.

It might be possible to run an auction site rather like standard auctions. So people would have a listing to go live at a certain time, the same as other similar ones in the same category.
So invite 1000 people to sell, for example, jewellery on Thursday 24th at 5pm onwards, to end the following Sunday. Then do similar with another category and so on. That way you could get all the buyers in one place. Not the greatest idea but slightly different and could cause interest.

As above though, money and time and a good customer service are needed, it may not be worth it.
