PIP and ESA - do they compare results?

After a long stressfull wait, my husband was awarded PIP enhanced daily living last week (applied in October last year) He did not need to attend an assesment of any kind.
He has also been on ESA (cb) since October, we received a letter from them saying that CB ESA will be stopping in october due to having been receiving it for a year. but we may be entitled to Income based ESA.
I applied for income based ESA about 3 weeks ago, chased it up a few days ago and they have said its being looked at so should hear any day now.
well today i have received a letter through saying he needs to go for an Atos medical. I'm assuming this is for ESA as already been accepted for PIP?
Do PIP and ESA not look at the same things ie just wondering how comes he needs a medical for ESA and not for PIP?
I also don't think i've filled out an ESA50 letting them know all about his condition?
TIA

Yes they do look at some of the same things, but for different reasons. PIP is for Care/Mobility needs & ESA is a benefit paid out because you are sick/disabled/terminally ill & cannot work for that reason(s). You can have a face2face for both one or none.0

Very few people get to skip the medical.whattodo02 wrote: »Thanks i don't understand how they've decided he needs a medical for ESA when i haven't sent them all the information about his condition etc?
And ESA is not about your condition.
It's about how your condition affects your ability to perform the descriptors, or if it causes a reason for you to be put into a group on the exceptional circumstances descriptors.
(with the exception of certain communicable diseases and terminal illness)
For the decisionmaker to decide about your condition - for example:
Does your X make you unable to stay at a workstation - sitting or standing, or alternating between them for more than half an hour? An hour?
Determining this from medical reports about your condition, by someone who has no training on your condition is at best tricky.
This is why a report from a trained disability analyst / Health Care Professional is requested. (and yes, the notionthat that can be meaingful if the HCP in question has no clue about your disability is another issue)
ESA is specifically not granted because 'Oh - this person seems definitely unable to work'.0 -
Ok, so an update, i have received another letter today saying that my OH is entitled to £136.05 per week ESA - this is because he has reached the max of 365 days that you can get cb ESA.
it then says that
cb ESA can be paid for a max of 365 days unless you are in the support group.
so from what i can tell he is entitled to IR ESA now, so does that mean he still has to go for the ATOS medical or can we just carry on and claim IR ESA without having to go for that??
(sorry for all the questions, just trying to get my head around it all and find out what we need to do next, have found phoning them not helpful in the past, so hoping someone here can shed some light please)
Thanks again in advance..0 -

In addition - do you - or have you ever lived with him - and do you have any income or assets?
If so - he may be entitled to no ESA-IR.0 -
