I scrapped my last car 4 years ago! I had just started my retirement and I decided to cut back on expenses so for the last 4 years I have been using my bus pass. When I finished driving I had the maximum no claims bonus but I have been informed that to insure a car now I will have to put 0 no claims. I can't even remember who my last insurer was is there a way of finding this out ?
My age is 66 I have been driving since the age of 21 no convictions or accidents of any kind so I am looking for advice regarding a company who will provide insurance at a reasonable cost. Thanks

I am not a car insurance expert but I know that in most cases your no claims bonus is only valid for up to two years.

What I means is that you can have full no claims and then not drive or insure a car for two years maximum and still be able to use your no claims.

That said i do think that it is a little unfair.

Some insurance companies will take your driving history into account so I would shop around.

So sorry can not be of more help but I am sure that a car insurance boffin will be here soon.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

    You have been advised correctly.

    You now have nil ncd

Use the mse insurance guide and also see if a local broker ( not swinton) can get you an introductory discount instead.

1st thing is to follow Martin's guide:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/
Really read and listen well to Martin's examples.

Make notes, then make phone contact - only free 0800 no's or Say NoTo0870/0845 options. Most companies New Business lines are free anyway - one of their little enticers. I'm back to Saga after M&S last year - haggle, haggle haggle and have fun doing so. This is where you bring up your driving history.

Check out cashback sites when you buy and remember, that should you choose a co. that features there, you must go through it via that site to receive the discount. In fact, I let it fall, because the 'negotiated' free breakdown cover was worth more to me.

Decide on a day for doing this and set to.

    Good luck.

I am not a boffin, but pretty much of an age with you and make every £ go round twice....at least:-)

Stick with your bus pass, the roads have changed a lot in the last 4 years.

Only in the number of potholes.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
