Hi all,
I'm relatively new to this, so apologies if this is repeated or I'm missing something ridiuciously obvious!!
I've contact my bank (Halifax) to request my statements some 3 months ago. I got a letter back from them on saturday, enclosed a plain unheaded piece of paper with all the charges that they had taken, on it. They also cancelled & enclosed my £10 cheque as a matter of courtesy??!!
Sorry if I appear a wee bit stupid, but are they trying to confuse me?
Is this enough information to proceed, or do I physically need the actual statements from them. By refunding my cheque, are they trying to deter me or something?
Also, I'm unsure what to do next? Can the letter of complaint go to the local branch or direct to the registered office?
Sorry to ask so much!!!
Thanks!

Hello! I'm also at the first stages with Halifax. I requested my statements from them and they weren't with me within the time period i gave them, so I started chasing them. The woman I spoke to on the phone asked me if it was the charges I was looking for and if so she would send me them out that day. Oddly enough, the list that she sent me (that is exactly like what they've sent you) arrived on the same day as about 50 envelopes containing my statements
Anyway, I was able to cross reference the list against my statements and they tallied exactly. So I don't see any reason why you can't use this information as your figures for claiming- after all it's based on their information, so they shouldn't be able to disagree with the facts and figures!

You just need the grand total of charges they've taken and they were being nice in cancelling the cheque.
Next stage is the next letter asking for the £xx back.0
