Just to warn people that Gourmet Society's marketing strategy is to entrap people with trial offer: they lure you with a nominal charge to get your credit card details and make it extremely difficult to cancel. They then collect your money automatically every year through the credit card. Trading Standard of Stoke has a ready-printed form for complaints against them.

If you really want to try, use a prepaid credit card that you will throw before the trial finishes.

We got caught by them. They said they had sent an email informing us they were going to take a year's subscription but I didn't see it. Same happened to a friend but she managed to get her money back.

I was caught by these people, it took several letters and a threat of legal action before they refunded my money. Caveat emptor.
  • I also got caught. I am emailing them and called them 2-3 times. Hopefully I will get my money back. The renewal mail was sent to spam which I didn't read.

Did you get your whole amount back? I heard they take £15 admin fee?

They didn't take an admin fee, I haven't heard that they did for others. If they had I'd have got it back by taking legal action against them. I didn't approve of their methods and certainly won't be taken in by some bully boy company a second time.

I fell into the trap and after sending what I thought was a thorough justification for a refund, i have received what looks like a generic email they must send to everyone who complains. I contacted my bank and they won't do anything.

Anyone got any tips for dealing with this quicker? Someone mentioned a pre-printed complaints form from Trading Standards of Stoke but i can't see anything on the website? Thanks!
  • Has anyone ever actually used their membership such that they have really saved any money?

Yes, I reckon I have saved money as we used it on various weekends away and tried out some nice restaurants. The main problem is we usually go out to eat on a Saturday and there is not much on offer locally
