Capital One Platinum Cashback rejection or web site issue?

I applied for this Capital One Cashback Card (as recommended by the cashback article) online last night, and the application seemed to go alright... except that it went through a stage of checking information, then took me straight to the home page.
It was after 9 and the application phone line had closed, so had to wait till this morning...
I rang and was told that I have been rejected for the card... Never had any issues applying for credit cards before.. could this be a system error? I am going to ring back after work to check that all the required information was submitted. Will also check my credit files out, as now I'm curious!
Anyone else had this issue? Many thanks.
I also posted a similar question as a post in an existing capital one thread on this forum, so apologies to anyone that is reading this again.
