Moving Zara from Orijen Fish to Orijen Senior

Zara is going to be 8 yo next week... time flies.. :(

Wondering about moving her from Orijen Fish (her current food) to Orijen Senior which is 7 years plus food.

Looked at ingredients and wondering if the chicken will upset her stomach... Hope not.

Has anyone done exactly same switch from Orijen Fish to Orijen Senior? Any stomach issues?

I will mix the 2 first (fish and senior) to get her used to the new one of course, just wondering if anyone done the same swap?

Thanks

  • I've never switched any of mine to senior food specificall due to their age

Maisie was on a 'senior' food a while back (she was 6 at the time) as it was also their light food (and I needed to shift weight off her)

I've always left them on what they've been on and if I've felt they need extra supplements due to age, I add these - there's never a high enough quantity of these in food alone (even senior versions) to make a difference

What do you think she's lacking?

If say joint supplements, Id add some green lipped mussel or gloucosamine / crondroitin to her current food rather than risk upsetting her tum & if her current food really agrees with her & she's doing well on it

  • Ps Maisie's going to be 8 in October so they're very similar ages

Poor little girl. Can't believe she's going to be 8 so soon.

I also never used an age specific food for my dogs as long as they were ok on whatever they were usually eating.

if you do switch, GR, obviously just keep an eye on her to make sure it's not upsetting her digestion. But might be just as well to leave things as they are.

As already said, unless there is a reason to change I'd leave Zara as she is.

I've had a look at both & the change from fish to a high chicken content would put me off. Apart from that there's very little difference between the two... slightly less fat, slightly more joint supplement in the senior.

It is around £10 a bag cheaper but, for me, that wouldn't be enough incentive to switch from something I know suits my dog

Thanks - the reason would not be the cost as £10.00 difference price on a bag is not going to make much difference to be honest.

I thought she SHOULD be on "senior" food as per her age but really the chicken content puts me off as she always had stomach problems with any chicken based food.

Thanks for all the input xx

Just an update - decided to leave Zara on what she knows/what agrees with her so ordered Orijen Fish as usual...

    Thanks everyone xx
