Nursery Fees on Bank Holidays

I'm just wondering, if your daughter knows her shifts are always a Monday and Wednesday, why on earth didn't she go with the person who looks after her child on bank holidays? This would save the injustice she feels at having to pay for a session when it's shut ( odd in itself, as every daycare/nursery in my area is open all year round except for a week at Christmas), and would save a double pay 5x a year!0

Agree its a decent nursery near to home & work and Mondays have been a must so far . She can take a week (5 days hols) per year without paying and will use these days to work it into all bank hols next year . It seems a tad better to her and can work and shuffle a few days to make it more suitable to get a break . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Hi, I've got the same issue and i've just written to the competition and markets authority. general.enquiries@cma.gsi.gov.uk if it's an industry-wide practice I think they can take action, but they'll only do it if enough people complain. Other organisations fund their staff holidays from providing a service, and over christmas and at bank holidays they are using up earned leave anyway, it's just wrong.0

I live on a park bench in the woods so unable to help in anyway and probation officer thinks its a bad idea , P.S its not a shame far from it . Maybe her dad & family does more than you think .
Are you sure you don't live under a bridge ?
This is an age old question though.
If you were a nursery worker - you'd expect to be paid for bank holidays - and the money has to come from somewhere whether it's charging for bank holidays or charging a higher daily rate and notationally bank holidays aren't charged for. Realistically most people who *have* to have Mondays would be working so will be paid whilst those who are SAHMs usually can pick and choose their days and can choose to avoid Mondays . The big issue is parents who don't read the contract they are agreeing to.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I feel the same about paying road tax when my main route to work is closed for maintenance. and my insurance going up because of someone else's claim. Or the fact that my daughter was in nursery before vouchers were invented. But I gain in other areas of my life - so I guess everyone comes out about equal.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0

The only way any business can afford to pay their staff on bank holidays when closed is to continue to charge clients, or have a small price increase which will cover the costs. I'm paid for bank holidays, why should I expect that my sons nurses to miss out on a days wages.
I'm not. Or any other day where I'm not physically in work. But if my kids were still young, I'd have to pay the nursery (and a lot of the staff will be on zero hour contracts, so won't be paid either).I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I'm self-employed and usually I don't work Bank Holidays not by my choice, but customers. Then again, if customer would want me to work, I can't, because I don't have childcare for that day, so I loose twice: loss of earnings and childcare cost without service.
I've just paid my son's nursery. He's 3, so get 15 hours, I pay rest. Festive time is coming , it means to me two weeks struggle with childcare and work arrangement and increased nursery bill. They still charged me for meals, I have no idea why, they really don't have to buy food .0 -
Do you get paid for bank holidays?
The nursery probably made a choice between charging for bank holidays and spreading out the cost throughout the year or not charging for them but making the other days more expensive.0
