cheap computer repair shops in London?

anyone know any cheap/non rip-off computer repair centre in London? My laptop has gone dead, doesn't switch on anymore and hasn't for the last week. I only bought it 2 months

this is my laptop: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/refurbished-laptops/acer-aspire-e1-570-refurbished-15-6-laptop-21847949-pdt.html

unfortunately I can't drop this laptop at Currys, where I bought it, because I bought it online and they don't offer that service in store for online goods, I'd have to send it back to the manufacturer (Acer) or https://www.knowhow.com, Currys partner company, which would probably mean not having my laptop back for quite a long time

any cheaper (or quicker) alternatives?

thanks

If it's under warranty you should get it sorted by the Vendor (Acer) but try Curry's first because I think they do their own warranty ...

Acer is the manufacturer, not the vendor.

in fairness, Currys told me that item bought online cannot be returned to the store to be repaired, so I'm afraid what Nearlyrich said is correct. I'll drop by Currys tomorrow and doublecheck

I've been put on hold on the phone with KnowHow for 25 minutes, no one ever answers...

any other route I could go down?

Really? what do I know LOL

    OP try this

    http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/support

have your proof of purchase handy in case they ask for a copy.

You can get on chat with a service rep of just register the issue on line, if Curry's do their own warranty repairs they will at least give you the correct info to contact them

Just a short extract from MSE's Consumer Rights guide:
    Know who's responsible

When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!

If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.

What on earth have you done this time?

As it's sold as a Refurb, Currys is responsible for the maintenance.

Did it switch off suddenly or did you switch it off and now cannot switch it back on.

Remove the battery and try to start it just using mains power. Are there any lights on when plugged into the mains? Press the Power/On/Off switch for ten seconds. Then press it again.

Why would you pay a repair shop to fix a laptop that's under warranty?
Apart from anything else, letting an independent open it up it will invalidate the warranty.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

lol I'm really sorry Nifty, I have no idea what I've done !! I did switch it off last night on Sunday I think ? now it doesn't switch on at all

I don't think I can remove the battery, pretty sure it's in built, and I can't find the order details anywhere.
This was after I did the factory restore. I already tried the trick of holding the power button down for 50 seconds, then pressing it on/off for another 50 seconds, didn’t work

I wouldn’t want to send it back to Acer as, besides the postal costs being quite hefty, it might take weeks for my laptop to come back and I really need for my part time business.

@wealdroam thanks very useful info… so if I want to put pressure on Currys, what can I do? Speak to the store manager or find out the head of customer services on their site? Who shall I speak with?

letting an independent open it up it will invalidate the warranty? I didn’t know this at all… but if I don’t tell Currys, would they still be able to find out I did it?

    Thanks for your help

    Manual

Slide the battery release latch in order to remove the battery.

    What about the lights?
