i have a 51plate zafira 1.8 which on turning on blows out a lot of blueish smoke, which stinks.it also loses power after 5/10 mins driving and wants to cut (has done on occasions)when it first started was told it was coil pack, which i changed with new plugs.i was then told it was my exhaust, which i changed ,but it has now gotten worse and my engine management light has come on.i was also told its burning oil i might aswell get a new engine/seals .but ive read some other posts on this site which sound similar to my problem..ie lambda senser, air flow senser ,or a valve??...please help...

When was it serviced last? A proper service not just an oil change and a list of parts they want to replace and charge you ££££ for.
How much oil is it using? How often do you check it and top it up?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Have you actually done any real diagnostics? Wet/dry compression tests? Have you even read the fault codes? Or have you just swapped some random bits, just in case?0

My mate has one of these, it burns as much oil as it does petrol too.
One day it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, and I diagnosed a blocked catalyst, (likely blocked with all that carbon from the oil, I don't know how it passes the emissions tests) a new one fixed the lack of power, and seems to have stopped a bit of the smoke.
He has promised to get a new engine one day, but this one keeps running...I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

1L per 1k miles isn't unusual - not for the fleet they have at work anyway0

without interrogating the ECU can theorize some problems with you.
1.Injector/s faulty (blue smoke billows out stinks of fuel)
2.valve stem oil seals worn (blue smoke billows out)
3.piston rings worn/oil control rings frozen.(blue smoke billows out
4.crank thrust/main bearings worn (audible noise of knocking form engine)
5.worn timing belt jumped a tooth/timing out of alignment damaged valves and or piston con rod (audible knocking wrattling coming form engine with blue smoke)
6.oil pressure low/worn oil circulation pump/blocked oil pick up strainer.
7.95% of exhaust catalyst and lambda failures are a result of another issue its merely a symptom of a fuelling/oil problem.
a heavy deal of smoke is a result of a severe engine issue.0 -
You really need it checked over by a competent tech, but they aren't rocket science and if the coil pack has been changed and it stinks of fuel and its giving out blue smoke, it sounds like a clapped out engine with a duff MAF.0
