Advice required please

I recently bought a designer bag, retails at £330 approx, I bought it to sell and put it on ebay with a reserve of £180. I had plenty of bids, the last bid being £124, I paid £130 and now feel that I would be happy just to break even. The last bidder was from Spain (not sure if this was a scam bidder) am now thinking of listing it without a reserve and wonder what would be the best price to start the bidding from. I am worried that if I start it at £100 it would put people off, also this increases the charge from ebay but am worried if I start it too low without a reserve I could stand to lose out greatly.

Any advice appreciated.

Have you searched the completed auctions for this bag? this will give you the best idea of what they sell for - don't forget that you will get your listing fee refunded if it sells next time around (so long as you 'relist' not just write it out new and it's only the basic fees you get back not the photos and gallery etc)

Do you have the receipt? .... If so, your best hope is to ensure that this information is well noted in the listing, and included in at least one of the pictures, naturally, with the price suitably obscured. :) .... Failing that (if you can) Go get a refund QUICK. :p

you've had bids up to £124 but now you're looking at reselling?
did the bag not sell? or did someone cancel a bid??

The OP said that the first auction had a reserve of £180 so although he had bids he had no winner.

I'd start it at 99p. It will attract a lot more interest and bids at this price.

Reserves put a lot of people off, I myself won't bid on anything with a reserve price.

Speaking from experience, I've sold a number of items for well over £100 where I've started the bidding at 99p. They went for a higher price than identical items that had a reserve or started at a higher price.

A friend of mine was having a designer bags and shoe sale in her house. Her cousin has a designer bag and boutique business and these are end of season items, she has some clause that stops her selling them off cheap as it devalues the line or something. So basically I do not have a receipt, I am convinced that these are genuine, lets just say she had some wives of high profile people at her house buying them. I also know that she always gets her bags from her cousin. I have all the identity cards and everything with it and it is truely a gorgeous bag, just not my style (large messenger) it is made of the softest kid leather and microfibre. I have to say I am petrified of selling it without a reserve.

I did check ebay and saw several similar but without the leather and different frontage, however, I saw lots of another style that I nearly bought.

But just too late, I have now relisted with a starting price of £100 and no reserve, if I can sell it at a £30 to £40 loss (by the time I have paid the fees) at least it will teach me not to be so impulsive. I should have bought one of the others because at least if it hadn't of sold I could have made use of it but this one is just a little to large for me and my needs nowadays. Excellent for someone who travels and needs a roomy bag for the aircraft. Hmm maybe I should add that to the description, but then I would be worried that they would be put off thinking its almost the size of a suitcase.

As a couple of people have said designer bags and things like that (sunglasses etc) are a pain to sell at a good price as there are so many fakes about. people will need too see proff on Ebay that it is original before they bid the sort of money you are asking for.
