Meter reading disputes
I moved into a new home in May 2014 and arranged for the gas/electricity to be switched to First Utility. The electricity switched fine, I was asked for a meter reading which led to a final bill from SSE and my account with First Utility set up correctly. They didn't ask for a meter reading for gas (and I had to query why my online account wasn't set up to allow me to make a meter read) I assume they had made a mistake somewhere and then set up my account with an estimated read.
My concern is that the estimated read was too high (I am not even at that figure now) The reading I had was 26059 and they used 26118, not a massive difference but enough to mean a higher closing bill with SSE than necessary (at a company charging higher prices) and my bills now are based on estimated reads, despite me providing accurate reads (but they can't accept these as they are lower than the opening read)
I have tried to get First Utility to amend my account to the correct meter read and to advise SSE of this (I have sent pictures of the meters) but they are refusing saying that as the differences are less than 250 units they won't dispute them.
I am confused that as a customer I can not actually be given the opportunity to pay for the gas I am using. I always provide meter readings as requested but it seems this is pointless as they aren't even using them. Does anyone have any similar experience??
Thank you

Calculate the price difference over 59 units and decide whether the fight is worth it (how much do you value your time?)0
