Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me?
I have been nagged by the Student Finance Debt company for the past year for a repayment from the grant they gave me.
I provided them with my parents P60's for the 3 years at university and each year they gave me a grant.
Now they are telling me that after reviewing this they have found that they made an error and I now owe them £2323 back!
Is there anyway I can get around paying this as it was their fault?!
I do not have £2323 to pay them back but now they are threatening bay lifters etc!
Thanks!!

Sorry, but I had to laugh at "bay lifters" for "bailiffs", was that you or your phone :rotfl:?
Anyway, other people may be able to say whether you might have a case to completely avoid paying. But assuming you can't, you need to do two things:
1) Insist that SF provide you with proof that your grant was overpaid.
2) Once they have done that and you accept it, make them an offer of monthly payments at a level that you can afford now and will be able to continue to pay.0 -

You need to make a formal appeal, if they still say you owe the money then you need to pay it back. Grants work completely different to the loans and they will get a debt collection agency to recover the debts.0 -
Grant and loan overpayments work the same way. If you arrange a payment plan of £5 a month, they'll leave you alone until the end of time...
If you accept that you have been overpaid, there aren't really grounds for an appeal. There is no law against making a mistake.
Just don't ignore it. Ring them and set up a plan paying a token amount to them.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

Certainly don't ignore it. There should have been an explanation as to why you were overpaid, and the regulations allow them to reclaim any overpayment, even if they are at fault.
Let us know the reasoning, and we might be able to assist.0
