What does this mean, is it hard and would this explain why it doesn't work? I'd have thought these days you just plug em straight in?
PLEASE HELP!!!

If the iron came with a fitted plug [most do these days, legal safety requirement AFAIK] then it will be earthed already
However, does it have a thermostat? Maybe the stat is stuck, try twiddling it around. Maybe something simple like a duff light?
Put the stat to linen or hot, does it get warm at all?
Try it in another socket, ideally in another room or upstairs or even next door
Maybe you have bought a duff iron, it happens sometimesWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
It will be earthed as soon as you plug it in (that's what the earth pin on the plug is for). So that won't be why it isn't working. Have you actually switched the iron on/turned up the heat setting, or have you tried replacing the fuse in the socket?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
