Trouble is, it's not "bending the rules", it's taking what isn't yours because - after all - it's "victimless", right? Yes, that's EXACTLY what you're advocating.
I'm afraid i'm not advocating anything. I'm merely trying to portray what actually happens in the real world.
I agree with moneyistooshorttomention, there may be alternatives for people in a lot of cases. But far be it for me to judge how people park. I just thought this thread seemed be peeking down from its ivory tower a little too much.*Assuming you're in England or Wales.0 -

Move house? Sell the "spare" car? it's easy to say, but if you're a couple scraping by each month, both working full time in different jobs, in a lot of cases thats just not a realistic proposition.
My wife and I work full time, we have three children (only two at home) and my wife is severely disabled. We were perfectly able to purchase a flat with access to a gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, it also has twenty four hour staffing, our flat was more expensive than the housing in this development of a similar size. We were able to purchase our flat and also purchase an extra parking space.
I'm on an okay income, my wife is as well, however almost her entire monthly earnings are eaten by her disability as she needs intensive physiotherapy which the nhs will not provide. We don't however have a huge chavy tv, we don't have sky, we don't go on countless holidays and we don't have a range of things such as vehicles on monthly payments. As a family who have £1900 a month after taxes and disability costs that we have no control over we have managed fine in both gaining a deposit and over paying to become mortgage free.
If someone wants to buy a property they have to make the appropriate sacrifices, if they choose not to they cannot moan when other people dislike them abusing the land that others have actually saved hard for.0 -

Because that looks a lot like advocating from here.0 -

Looks like a theory on their justification to me.
Anyway, ignoring semantics. Whats the solution?
Can the irritated residents do anything?
Can the car parks owner issue any legally enforceable penalty?
If so, does the OP have any means of repealing the implementation?
Or do they just have to find somewhere else to park?*Assuming you're in England or Wales.0 -

The real issue is developers are building new sites which don't meet with current day standards, let alone expected future developments when they build these sites. Two car parking spaces should be provided for every unit in addition to visitor parking but they won't do this unless there is enough money to be had from it.Save 12k in 2014 challenge:#09 - £1,560/£7,5000

There is a site near me where they are building a huge new estate with hundreds of houses. The first planning application had NO parking spaces as it's next to a train station!0 -
There was a time when the ratio of parking spaces to homes was deliberately low to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You can only park either in residents parking or visitors parking, unless you own a flying vehicle.
Who says?
If i turned up at your estate and parked my vehicle wherever i chose, what would happen?
I doubt that the entrance to the estate has a big sign telling me im contracting to park0
