Cheque cashing without bank account

Hi all!
I've got the following problem:
N-Power owes me some money from my electricity account and I want get them back.
I am a non-UK student in the UK, but don't have any bank account and currently unable to open one.
I've asked N-Power for a cheque, but they've told me that if I don't have a bank account, I can't convert it into cash.
Is it right? and what can I do?

Some places will cash a cheque for a hefty fee, but you will have to provide ID and may have to wait to make sure the cheque will be paid and not returned.

You could open a savings account - it is often slightly easier (to open) than a bank account as they normally just check your ID rather than credit search.
This would allow you to cash cheques for no cost and receive credits directly.
Examples would include: TSB Easy Saver or Halifax Everyday SaverThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
