halifax mortgage

Options
Hi
I had mortgage advisor appointment today at halifax.
Myself and partnerhanded in all payslips etc. Credit check was done while we were there no issues.
We were given key facts illustration and told what are monthly payments would be and when they would come out (dd set up) home n building insurance and life cover all taken out.
We paid fees for surveys and valuation

My question is have we passed credit checks?

Seems a daft question but ftb so all new to me.

  • Wow...seems pretty fast if you've paid already!

I would say if any issues were found on your credit file - they would have declined you there and then.

    Good Luck :)

    That was my thinking.
All seems very quick only viewed house Saturday offer accepted Monday and now we are here.

Trying not to get excited yet tho but fingers crossed.

good to see the halifax mortgage adviser did a good job !

don't panic if there had been a problem I'm sure they would have said - did he give you an agreement in principle ?

Yes we have a full breakdown of first payment (based on completion date 16/09/14) and subsequent payments and went rate is after 2 years fixed. We also have mortgage roll number!

I think I will worry until the keys are in my hand but hoping things are going in the right direction.

I know Halifax gave me free building insurance & contents insurance for the first year . And this offer was never mentioned on their website. Apparently if they cant offer it to you based on your area they will then just give you £250 :) (this was only done a few weeks ago, so look out for that offer!)

They will also pay you £150 if you bank with them and your first DD comes out of that account. So probably worth it!

Did you actually need/want life cover?

PS: When i went to a price comparison site to looked at buildings and contents insurance, halifax came out over £500 a year more expensive... so after my first year im moving!

Thanks for that information I will bare that in mind.

I feel I do need life insurance. My mother passed away recently at 57 very sudden and and I felt first hand the impact of her having no life insurance to cover her mortgage.

Choosing to buy protection products from a lender is about the least "money saving" you can possible be.

Products are often over-priced and can also be of poor quality making a claim more difficult.

ah sorry to hear about that. Its often worth checking if you can get it from your employers benefits package (depending on the company offerings) as this can often be tax deductible when its taken straight from your pay slip...

Also if you are on a final salary pension then you could already have life insurance in place without knowing

This is nothing more than an agreement in principle. All the direct debit and life insurance selling is just to tie you psychologically to them and dissuade you from going elsewhere.

This application has to go through all the checks and underwriters scrutiny before it becomes a binding offer.
