ppi stonebridge/legal and general

Hope somebody can help. My brother in-law believes he was mis-sold ppi. He took out a mortgage a few years ago after being advised by a stonebridge mortgage advisor. They set up a mortgage with Bristol and West (who I believe are part of Bank of Ireland), and a ppi contract with Legal and General.
He was self-employed at the time and self-certified and was told by Stonebridge that he had to take out the ppi to get the mortgage.
I have told him to contact legal and general for a copy of the ppi contract to see if he was suitably covered due to being self-employed and contact Bank of Ireland to find out if the ppi was a condition of the mortgage.
Any advice??
What are the chances of making a claim with either Stonebridge or Legal and General?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MPPI rarely has any problem with self employed.
Many mortgage brokers require the insurance to be bought via them to give free advice. A model that is allowed.I have told him to contact legal and general for a copy of the ppi contract to see if he was suitably covered due to being self-employed and contact Bank of Ireland to find out if the ppi was a condition of the mortgage.
L&G MPPI does cover self employed. B&W didnt need it but it doesnt matter. What are the chances of making a claim with either Stonebridge or Legal and General?
Advisers account for about 0.5% of complaints and most get rejected. So, very low odds. Especially as there appears to be no wrongdoing. L&G have no liability.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
