i have searched the forum for previous posts, but a lot of people want budget/gaming laptops.
i know this is a money saving site but i am looking for something solid that will last a good few years.
it must be Microsoft compatible and have at least a 15" screen.
does anyone have any recommendations?
i have previously had a Compaq that was awful and wouldnt have one again.

what is your Budget?0

There we go again,'what is the budget',I am sure OP means value for money otherwise he will not be asking the question here, he will probably hire a consultant of some sort. You agree?

Value for money is relative, hence the budget query.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

No not at all. Budqet is crucial.sebastianj wrote: »There we go again,'what is the budget',I am sure OP means value for money otherwise he will not be asking the question here, he will probably hire a consultant of some sort. You agree?

@£300 look for an i3 (non u cpu - make sure the CPU doesnt end in u like i3 -3217u although it may be difficult at this price point)
@£500 look for an i5 and an SSD (non u cpu)
I'd stick to the following brands but that is personal preference: Asus, Dell,HP or Lenovo.
The compaq brand is now owned by HP - I assume you previously had a budget compaq that was slow - some of the slower CPU's in the budget price brand will be equally slow today.0 -
Lenovo and Medion are now under the same umbrella. I find that Medion have higher spec, for the price, than other brands.
I'm on my second, a 17" which is two years old, the first one , a 15" , having been dropped. (This one has aslo slid off a folding table, but is fine.)0 -
i didnt really have a budget as such when i started looking, but it is realistically £500
someone sent me this - http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_TravelMate_P253_Pentium_Dual_Core_4GB_500GB_Windows_8_Laptop__NX.V7XEK.013/version.asp
never had experience of an Acer - any opinions on that one? ^
i have had an Asus netbook previously and thought it was pretty good - well, it worked, which seems to be half the battle with technology these days. they dont get as good reviews as Acer, though ....0 -

To be fair, it's ok at that price point.
Extended Warranty might not be a bad idea. Though the vendors description is a bit confusing. Say 3 months instead of 3 years. So best to give them a call before purchase.0
