Taxation of benefits-in-kind

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post, would the Mods kindly transfer if appropriate. Thanks.

The situation is as follows:

My husband used to receive medical insurance as a taxable benefit. The whole sum was deducted via his tax code each year.

He has now retired and the medical insurance benefit ceased completely on the day he retired. He has tried to get his code amended so that it shows only the pro rata sum (i.e. April-July) but HMRC have said it must remain as it is.

This can't be right. If you're taxed on a company car for example, you don't continue to pay the full amount if you leave that employment - the benefit is calculated pro rata.

Can anyone find the appropriate section of the HMRC's own website manual realting to benefits-in-kind? Or better still, if anyone here works for the Revenue, can they let me know what the proper procedure is?
