Security Cameras

Hi,

I have been having problems with someone stealing my for sale board and was thinking about getting a security camera to try find out who it is. Can anyone recommend a good one that wont cost the earth?

Thanks in anticipation

Firstly the board belongs to the agents, if you have one.

There are plenty on Maplins web site. You will need to decide where you want to mount it and how much money to spend.
  • Hi, is it only the for sale board that is being taken? Or anything from your garden etc ? I would not go down the security camera route for a for sale board - why? As it may encourage the thieves to take more do other things - they may up the Auntie if they know they are on camera....ring the estate agents and let them know... some friends of ours had an issue and the agents gave them a board which they put it the lounge window (inside) - a bit unsightly and would block a bit of light ...but still identifies your house as on the market and no one could steal it then..

my experience with cameras ... it it escalates the issues - also if you caught two youths taking your board on camera - what could you do...seriously the police would not be interested...:)

Agree with the above. Seems an odd thing to steal - maybe a neighbour doesn't want you to sell? :)
However, if you just want to satisfy your curiosity, what about something like this? Not recommending it particularly, as I've never used one. It also has no reviews on Amazon, and could be more than you would want to spend anyway.
You could always put a cheap "CCTV in operation" sign up, if you just wanted to deter whoever is taking the sign!

..and possibly buyers if they think that sort of thing is necessary in the neighbourhood.

Not wanting to hijack the thread but in a similar vein some animal keeps pooping on my back lawn.I'd like to film the culprit in action ( it might be my neighbours dog who I don't get on with, the owner not the dog that is )....what's my cheapest option for a camera I can prop up on the window sill inside and record the little git ?

Have you got a laptop with webcam? That would do it. You could then email the video to neighbour.

I've a knackered old laptop but no webcam.

Would a motion detecting camera work thru a window ?

A PIR one probably wouldn't, but you can get software (freeware I believe) that monitors the image for a change and triggers the recording that way. Must get loads of false triggers, but at least it should stop some of the time.

I love this - yes have you ever thought ...you are probably a fab neighbour and your next door families dont want to lose you !!:)

They will be telling all your potential buyers that they shouldn't live there because of the crime rate - because they want you to stay !:rotfl::rotfl:
