    What were the predictions?

The predictions were wide and varied, just as predictions normally are.

Well thats the benefit hindsight gives us! Some will have turned out to be right, others not so much which is the original point I've just come back to.

Northern Ireland House Prices LOWEST in the UK

So our house prices are Half the UK average......

Perhaps recruiters do not make as much of this fact as they could in attracting people to come to NI from GB. I would not underestimate the power of cheap houses to buy for people in GB It is a big plus for companies wanting to recruit as far as I can see.

Houses had been cheap over here before the bubble, didn't attract anyone really to come live here then, only increase in population has been by EU migrants wanting a job.

The pluses to live here don't outweigh the negatives by a long stretch.

Oh dear. Where would you recommend moving to?

Pluses must have outweighed negs for the Europeans.

And prior to the bubble there was that oul Troubles nonsense.

What attracts them is word of mouth that you can make a good wage here. Also, despite what people say, there is a surplus of housing, especially outside of Belfast. You need something more than that to attract people from GB. A stepping stone in a career perhaps. Either that or exceptionally well paid jobs.

    What negatives specifically?

It's difficult to take a step up career-wise by moving to here, there's just not enough big companies or corporate HQs.

Well, if there was work going a begging in moy park etc you might have expected English people from run down towns like South shields and Barnsley to come here, rather than Portuguese and polaks. Apparently not. Then again, you might have expected these jobs to have been taken up by unemployed locals. Apparently not.
