I always remember Austin (TX) coming top of these surveys.

No seaside mate. With all this global warming you need some ocean in which to frollic.

Toronto is boring.........but Vancouver is great.
    .

I loved living in Toronto - there was so much to do! It was only for a summer though and I was accused of completely losing my sense of humour when I came home. Would love to visit Vancouver though.

Any city where you can ski in the morning, and swim in the sea in the afternoon has to be a great place to live.

Sounds a bit tiring to me.

You know what? My partner would love us to find out. He's training as a radiographer right now and fancies moving to Canada for a bit when he's qualified. I'm ambivalent. Open minded, but I love living in London so much. I really, really love this city. Can't imagine Toronto would be as interesting, but hey - see what pans out.

As a radiographer, you might do worse than check out Plymouth. Large teaching hospital and at long last it has become more multi cultured reflecting a good choice of shops and eating out.

Housing in Devon is quite high but has a large dip in Plymouth. Good quality 2 bed terrace would be £125k perhaps.

    Lots of sea and countryside.

Naah, I like Plymouth but the only cities I've ever been in where I've thought "yup, I could actually live here" are London, Hong Kong, New York and San Francisco. And I prefer London out of all of them. There's no UK city I've been to that I would rather live in than London. It suits me very well. I'm intrigued by Toronto (mainly because the mayor seems so much fun) and Vancouver, but I suspect I'd get a bit bored. But hey, open mind and that...

    Just back from Western Canada.

Personally, I find Calgary a bit plain but on the plus side I never get tired of the Rockies.

Vancouver is okay, but Victoria is better. Of course prices have gone stupid in many of these places too.

It seems there are few bargains to be had now. A decent house in a nice part of Calgary is 3 million+.

I reckon you have to make the most of wherever you live. The great thing about UK is the sheer accessibility. You can drive from Manchester to North Wales or Cumbria or the North Yorkshire or Peak District in a couple of hours. Talking to people in Oz who were from Brisbane , Cairns, Sydney - the distances involved are just mind boggling. Same with Canada really.

Basically it's the colonies plus Austria (mistaken for Australia perhaps?)

I'm surprised that Istanbul isn't even on the chart. Fifteen million people and two UEFA Champions League clubs should make it count as significant, I would have thought.

Persistent civil unrest. Police tear gassing innocent business visitors sitting off Istiklal trying to sink a Peroni and munch on a falafel (or me in April). Limited public transport for a city of that size and a schoo and university system which is struggling to cope with the numbers of students from the growing population.
