cheapo meal that I used to make back in the 1960s when broke was cheese & tattie pie.basically just thin slices of potato layered with thin sliced onion and grated cheese, a slight dollop of milk, or water if really brassic and topped with a totally scrunched up bag of crisps and grated cheese.as a crunchy topping .chuck into the oven about 180c and cook until potato's are done.great on its own or if flush a couple of skinless sausages first cooked in the frying pan then sliced lengthwise into strips for a criss cross effect on top of the melted cheese and scrunched up crisps . Before the children came along my friend and I would take it in turns to cook on a Saturday night and our OHs and us would play cards. No cash to go out with, so we had to entertain indoors. In fact I still have the pyrex dish I used to cook this in it cost me 3s11d in Woolworths in 1962.bit cloudy now with the amount of times its been washed up but I always remember making the cheese, onion and tattie meal in it
:):) probably not healthy but I'm still here 52 years later
