It is very difficult to work it all out, isnt it? :) Which Lasagne are you using? The cheapest I can find in all the supermarkets is 32p and it is only enough for one go.

My error honey. Lasagne sheets are 32p from Asda, got confused with the spaghetti which is 20p!
  • It looks like the OP's original budget was a misprint or she has changed her mind. Thank goodness. :)

Shame she hasn't had the curtesy to come back and let people on this thread know. After all, some posters have put a fair amount of time and effort into helping her.

Not sure if I should have started a new thread or not. However, I am still thinking about very frugal meals...
I decided to try out a couple of my suggested meals recently, in fact we have just had the potato and onion frittata (omelette). Really delicious. For lunch on Saturday we had mackerel toasted sandwiches, again, really nice....
What would anyone else's suggestions be for a "favourite" frugal meal? This should not be seen as a necessity, just a really really cheap meal suggestion that you enjoy?

oooh I havent done Frittata for ages thanks for the reminder Agentmomo :D

We are on a bit of 'We paying off this bloomin credit card' personal challenge at present so this has been great to read through even though the OP didnt come back and post, hopefully its been a helpful thread to her even if she is lurking ;)

our fave frugal meal at present is endless variations of !!!!!! sauce (puttanesca :o) with spaghetti......I dont usually do capers but add in odd slice of pepperoni, bacon, sausage etc and sometimes extra veg...made a veggie version last weekend with some peppers added and red lentils.

The family loves this meal in a lot of ways more than the drastically more expensive chicken wrapped in Parma ham!

My favourite frugal meal is spaghetti in garlic butter (slice a couple of cloves of garlic and gently fry in butter) with a few shavings of parmigiano reggiano on top. Not particularly healthy but great filling comfort food :)

Some great suggestions here, even if the OP doesn't come back, there will be plenty of people reading along who may find it useful.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Speaking of cheap meals and potato and onion... It's probably not the healthiest thing in the world but if you have potato, onion, cheese and a spot of butter or oil, pan haggerty is a fantastic wintry comfort food.

Although traditionally it's only the potato, onion and cheese, you can shove other things in it as well to make more of a full dinner of it. I've put chopped leeks and ham in which was really nice, or scraps of most other leftover meat and veg chopped small would probably work.
