Hello and welcome. Making early overpayments means that is money you never pay interest on again so well done! I wish I had overpaid our first mortgage as it was only £205 a month!
Your home and location sound fab and hopefully all the moving in type expenses will be over soon.Nov 2025 - part 1 - £13,878 part 2 - £20,953 Total - £34,832 24 months to go!0 -

Well I am going away this weekend camping

I have bought lots of food to stop us having to buy too much and we are investing in a little camping stove and kettle (£25). So making it marginally MSE!
From the 1st September I start my new job - will be trying to get back into a routine which I have lost over the last 8 months with my current job. Then the MSE and meal planning etc will really kick in
Otherwise not much to report, decorating is going slowly as OH is working a LOT!0 -

Hi, welcome and good luck!
Sounds like you have a firm plan and plenty of options ... sussing the difference LTV makes took me a while to do, so it's great that you're straight onto it!
Have a happy time making your new house into your home! xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Well the weekend was less MSE than planned! Spent £60 on camping equipment - stove, gas, kettle and cool bag with ice blocks but all stuff we will use again. Quite a bit spent when we were there as well.....woops!
This week will be an expensive one as doing two birthday meals - one for MIL and one for OH! Also still got lots to buy for the house - curtains, bedding etc. I'm sure it will settle down soon anyway!
Lots of admin to do today - people to call, forms to fill in etc. Best get cracking! 2nd mortgage payment went out today, need to make an OP but need to ring the bank first to set it up on online banking.0 -
So reassuring to see someone else spending/investing - have been feeling a bit of a fraud wanting to be mortgage free while spending money on the house! Glad to know I am not alone - keep telling myself its all about consciousness of budgeting!0

Hi pushkin,
Our house needs a lot of work, and although we want to be mortgage free we also want to live in a nice house! I think the MFW board is more about realising that even a small amount of OPs brings that MF date closer and saves a fortune in interest. You don't have to put everything into the mortgage!0 -
Congrats on your house and good luck on your MFW journey!

Quick update:
Lots of money spent on home improvements, and it isn't ending yet! Spent £96 in B&Q today - close to £200 this month alone! All on new lights and switches and bulbs! We have been buying the LED bulbs, which are more expensive but last a lot longer and are A+ energy rating so good in the long run but £5 a bulb
And I bought 5 today!! OH is installing them all himself though so that is good and MSE
Also bought a new laundry basket today at £20 but much needed and returned wallpaper for £10. Had a lot of family round helping on Sunday so good progress made in the bedroom and the garden! We are getting there one step at a time.
Other costs since last update: £230 on a small laptop (essential for new self employed work - tried to restore my old one but it just wasn't happening - have packed that off to a friend to revamp for me and then I will try and sell it for a few quid).
£20 on a driving licence renewal (£5 on the photos!)
Soon to be another £70 on a passport renewal - at least I have the photos ready!
Food shopping today came in at under £38 which is good as last week was £90+ (we hosted a BBQ and a dinner party in a week for peoples birthdays).
£30 to my BIL for helping us so much at the weekend - not essential but him and my sister are struggling a bit atm so like to help them out as we are in a position to.
I think that's about it. Mortgage OPs not happening yet - 2nd payment has been taken but waiting for a few bills and things to settle before we get regular OP set up. Also need to ring Halifax to get the mortgage on the online banking page - our old one was so shouldn't be a problem!
Anyway sorry for waffling! Things are going along nicely although I feel like I always have 101 things to do and as soon as I cross one off the list another appears!0
