UK only, bidder from overseas

I have recently listed an item on Ebay and specified shipping to the UK only. The only bidder (so far) is from Taiwan!!

Its quite large heavy ceramic item and I am really not happy to sent it to Taiwan, ignoring the fact that the postage I have quoted is for UK only and wouldn't cover the cost of shipping to Taiwan,

Is there anything I can do?
:p

When setting up your auction, did you select UK only?

(Writing it in your listing doesn't mean much, you need to make sure you I tick all the correct boxes when listing so that overseas bidders can't bid!)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I'm not sure, the postage/delivery options are all set to UK only. Are you saying that I could have blocked overseas people from even bidding? If so, is it too late to do anything about it now as there is no way I am posting it to Taiwan.

I think I have found how to change my account settings to not sell to certain countries, I have now ticked all but UK and Europe.

Even though the postage options specify UK only, this person has still bid. Can I refuse to send it?

  • Where are you seeing "Taiwan". They may just be using an account they originally registered in Taiwan.

If I click on the bidders name/ID, it says Taiwan. So I could be worrying for nothing? They have got a feedback score of over 1000 so I'm not worried about that, its the cost of posting a large heavy ceramic dish to Taiwan when I've only quoted £15 postage (to UK only). They haven't actually won it yet so possibly could be out bid.

I would just cancel the bid personally.

I have no problem shipping overseas, but I do expect bidders to respect my auction preferences so if the item shows shipping to the UK only, it's pretty ignorant to just go ahead and bid.

I'd cancel and block the buyer - on cancellation note write: 'oveaseas buyer bidding on UK only auction'

Have you selected the option in Buyer/Bidder Management that blocks bids from bidders "registered in countries to which you don't post to"(sic)? That should block overseas bidders if you don't specify overseas postage.

They have an account that was registered in Taiwan, that's all it means.

I have now, I didn't before they bid though as I wasn't aware this option existed.

I'll check in a few days before the auction ends to see if they are still winning and if so, possibly send them a message to advise I will only post to UK.

    Thanks all!

Don't wait a few days. What if they don't see the message?

Do it now and if they are outside of the UK retract their bid and block them.
