After Bereavement Payments Stop?

Hi,
We used to get higher rate of carers allowance, but after a bereavement in the family it got replaced with a carer's premium £40 less a week as we got income support and bereavement allowance for 12 months. I guess after the 12 months which is coming up the changes revert automatically back to what it was before? The girl at the benefits centre said everything is automatic will we still get income support and carer's allowance?
