The OP has given me a nice chuckle.
I'm glad to see ebays policies to 'improve buyer experience' are bitinf it on its backside.0 -
Well there is no way on this planet that i will be paying their extortionate shipping costs, they could well have lost a sale and IMO deserve to loose many more, and if you are an e bay seller doing this scam, and e-bay need to modify the way they do things to prevent this unfair practice
ebay have already "fixed" p&p overcharging....
1) ebay started chargeing a 10% fee on p&p part as well
2) ebay no longer use the p&p star to "help sellers improve"
Im sure its a coincidence that ebay stop using the p&p star rating as a measure of how good a seler is, after they start getting a 10% fee from the p&p
So its been "fixed" by forcing sellers to cover another 10%+ fees in the overall price a buyer has to pay
So you have a choice, buy or not buy, if the TOTAL price and feedback is better than elsewhare, I could not care how the seller splits the item/p&p values, ebay get same fees & I get item for same price no matter how its "split".
but as others have said, in this case I suspect its priced to discorage its selection. I have had the same recently with tree cutting quotes, a couple were twice the price of the others, because they did not want the work, but did not want to just come out and say it, in case I have future job they would want.
edit - the ebay best match system, also seems to encorage sellers to price £10 items at £300 etc, because they are out of stock and dont want it to be bought, but the system demotes the seller/listings ? if they do the "right" thing and remove it..0 -
It's to do with dead links, from within eBay and outside eBay, you click on search engine result, and the item no longer exists, bad buyer experience.edit - the ebay best match system, also seems to encorage sellers to price £10 items at £300 etc, because they are out of stock and dont want it to be bought, but the system demotes the seller/listings ? if they do the "right" thing and remove it..

Going off topic a little it is interesting how these 'improvements' for buyer satisfaction have actually cost the buyers money.
I have a range of items, real bread and butter stock, that get chucked in a Jiffy bag with a 73p stamp on them. I can send two or even three at same price.
Under the old rules I had item cost of say £5 plus 80p postage, all additional items went free postage, if people bought 4 then I lost out a little as I had to send in two lots. Now those items are say £5.80 and if buyer buys 3 they get charged 3 x £5.80.
So, I'm selling the same amount of stock, buyers are paying me more as many still buy two or three but I am guaranteed 5* for, postage and am making more money as I still send items together.
Exactly how that benefits my buyers I don't know., although I do very often upgrade to 1st class - but suspect buyers don't notice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yep same here - I even do the upgrading to first class thing too, (am beginning to thing your suggestion that we are one and the same person in parallel universes could be true...LOL)
Of course ebay are making more money too so you can see why they are doing it but to roll it out under the guise of 'because buyers want it' is a bit lame...LOL0 -

true, and if they do what I do and buy items one at a time over a few days, if its "free postage" with no offer to combine, I still pay the same but PP get more 20p's(or whatever business rate is) & RM get more postage.
Its not improving any type of buyer's experience at all as far as I can see
