Ebay, some sellers over charging for P&P

As per the above title, today i was going to buy a product that was new so not in an auction , for £47.99 the normal 2-3 day shipping costs where not an issue, But the express delivery option which says uses royal mail special delivery next day before 1pm service the price is grossly overcharged at £77.99 to send a small electronic device with a value of under £50.00 I have looked at other sellers offering the same or similar products for around the same price, and again the express delivery charge is extortionate , I could send the same product using the same royal mail service for under £10.00 And this isn't just a error on the web page, if it add to my basket and start the payment the same to shipping options are there at the same prices , so to have it delivered maybe next day would cost me more a lot more than what the value of the product they are selling i somehow don't think so, I have e-mailed the sellers and also asked the useless e bay support regarding this just to see if it is some kind of web site bug or not, still waiting for replies from the sellers, Surely they cannot charge more than it costs to send using the said service ?

You should compare it with prices o the same item listed by other sellers. Should it be the same or cheaper then just pay it lol

I reckon it is likely that the seller trying to get an edge by advertising it at a really low price but with huge postage costs which makes the whole cost reasonably priced in line with their competitors

No big deal really because you'd probably pay about that much with another seller (and should it be cheaper elsewhere then what is the point in ranting?)

Oh and I'm selling that same item too at 600 pounds plus 1000 pound delivery. Let me know whether you want to buy my item (demonstrating the concept o an open market where sellers can set their own prices)

Is not the case all the sellers selling this item or different versions of it, are charging around the same price + /-£10 and all have a similar extortionate express delivery fee, exceeding the value of the sale price of the product, and for some odd reason the dispatch location is the same uk city , makes me suspicious that they maybe the same seller with several user names

I think Ebay sellers can get a discount on fees for meeting certain criteria. One of which is to offer an 'express delivery'. Possibly the seller you are looking at wants to earn the discount but doesn't want to have to make a special trip to the Post Office so puts a high price so nobody chooses that postage option.

  • As aeb explained, the problem is with eBay's requirements for top-rated sellers and that includes providing optional express shipping. So, some sellers offer it at a high price so that buyers don't choose this option.

    as TopDaddy said..
If you looked in a shop window and saw a tin of beans priced at £9.99 you'd just laugh and walk away. But for some reason if some people saw the same thing on eBay they'd start kicking up a big fuss.. complaining.. getting eBay involved.. writing to their MP.

If you don't like the price.. don't buy.

You may not have read teh OP properly. Its not the price of the item that troubles them it is the price of the postage.

If you dont read a post properly then dont post a reply.

So what? It's not as though the delivery charge is hidden. The same applies - if you don't like the delivery charge, don't bid for it.

Perhaps it's meant to be £7.99. Ask the seller if they've mad a mistake.
