PIP delays *after* decision

I am posting this slightly out of curiosity, to see if anyone has come across the same thing, but also for any advice anyone may have.

I applied for PIP in late December 2013, 1st April 2014 had the advisory letter from the DWP telling me my DLA would continue until a PIP decision was made, then had the Capita assessment in late April. My DLA payments continued until 5th August when an expected payment wasn't made. Now, it is my understanding that DLA payments continue until 28 days after a PIP decision has been made.

I must have made at least 4 phone-calls each to the PIP/DLA departments over 5th and 6th August. Eventually I was told, by two separate people in the DLA dept and one person from the PIP dept, that a decision about my PIP had been made 11th June 2014 and that is why my DLA had stopped. The dates make sense given that my last DLA payment was actually 8th July 2014. The funny thing is, I called them again today (19th August 2014), spoke to a manager and was told a PIP decision has not actually been made at all.

The problem is that my DLA has just ceased, without me being notified by the DWP in anyway. Surely a PIP decision must have been made in order to prompt the ending of my DLA. I've put several complaints in for them to get this situation sorted and have also written to my local MP.

I am completely baffled as to what on earth they think they're playing at and wondered if anyone else had come across delays *after* an alleged decision may or may not have been made.

  • Had another long phone call to the DWP again this afternoon. After much faffing around, it was determined that I have in fact been awarded enhanced mobility and care. A decision that was taken 11th June, as original thought.

So after 10 weeks, they have triggered a payment for the period of 4th July - 31st July for me 'to be getting on with'. It baffles me as to how they've come up with the sum on monies in question and why they are paying me for a period already partly covered by my last DLA payment. Its my understanding, according to the DWP's website about PIP rates, that the payment for enhanced care and mobility is about £150 per week. Is this correct? If it is, by my calculations, 4th July - 31st July should be about £600. The payment is significantly less than this.

However, they have also promised me that the elusive Decision Letter will be sent out to me by the end of the day. Hopefully with some economic workings out.

Am I right in thinking that PIP back pay is paid from the date of the initial claim?
Is DLA pay deducted from PIP backpay?
  • Both enhanced PIP rates total £138.05/week x 4 = £552.20. Is that anywhere near what has been paid?
  • Hi Horseunderwater (can I call you Horse? :) )
It's nearer, but the payment is still significantly light.
I've checked the rates for both standard and enhanced, and by no numerical juggling can I get the total they say they'll pay me.
I think I'll wait and see what the letters say, and contact the CAB if necessary.
    Anyone know about backdated paying?

Only new claims for PIP are backdated to the date of the claim. People being moved over from DLA are paid DLA for 28 days after the PIP decision. Then, if PIP is awarded, the payment starts after the DLA has stopped.
