Paying For New Build 'Additions'.

Going to look at a Bellway new build at the weekend which has just started to be built.

You have the option of choosing 'extras' like work tops and wardrobes etc.

Are these costs added to the house price and thus mortgage or do they have to be paid for separately?

When I was a sales adminn for a house builder, extras had to be paid for in advance or they wouldn't go in!

We always had to have the money to pay extras without valuation of house changing and mortgage. We even had a single garage changed to double with extra done so that there could be rooms above the garage and that had to be paid on invoice from house builder.
  • It may not be the same for every company but we had to pay for extras upfront with Abbey Homes.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:
  • just bought a house with persimmon - we had to pay a deposit when we chose them and then send the rest of the money to the solicitor with our deposit for completion. we weren't able to add this to our mortgage.

You can't add them to the house, they can choose to include them for free though!

Bought a Bellway new build recently - all extras that we had, had to be paid for in full, up front. e.g. flooring, they wouldn't order/book in the flooring from their suppliers until they'd been paid in full (so had to pay ~6 weeks before completion). Just be warned, some extras are way, way overpriced - things like appliances had a 100+% markup from the ones I looked at.
