Long story short.....
Our wedding was booked, we signed the usual contract agreement, paid in full, on the day we turn up to find that they had two marquees out in the grounds for a Shakespeare festival that was going on the same weekend as our wedding! We were not informed that this was going on at all by the staff of our venue! It was a total shock, we thought we would be the only ones there for our special day! We had to miss out on lots of photo opportunities that we'd planned with our photographer as the steps in grounds outside were being used as the stage, which we were not allowed to use, they'd also coloured them in bright colours it was an eye sore! Also the other marquee was on the grounds so we had to be careful that it wasn't in the background. Luckily there was other steps but I think it's not the point, we had lots of missed photo opportunities and areas that we couldn't go to! I emailed the venue to say we had a lovely day but feel disappointed that we was not made aware of the festival taking place! They emailed back saying they were very sorry they should have let us know but they hope the enjoyment we had from the day would outweigh the disappointment! Could I take this further.. Do you think they stuck to their contract? Thankyou for looking and/or commenting!

You need to read what the T&Cs of the contract actually said. None of us are psychic and so could only give opinions.0

Unless the contract offered you exclusive use of the venue and grounds, they owe you nothing.
You should have asked them whether the venue would be for you alone, or whether other events may happen too.0 -
If your contract (even verbally) said you had exclusive use then yes you should get some form of compo. If you werent told that and its not in the contract and you didnt ask then no I dont think you are entitled to anything0

asking about exclusive use was one of the things on the checklist my DS and DIL had when booking their wedding venue. Many venues did not mention it and when asking it transpired that either other events were booked in or there was public right of use to say a bar area or grounds. it was actually more common for it not to be exclusive.
They ended up paying a little extra for a venue that gave a guarantee of exclusive use, so I agree with the above comments- what does your contract say?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
