benefit advice

just wondering if anyone can give me any advice

I am currently a student and getting a bursary, but I've been really stressed/ depressed lately and thinking of having a bit of time out- probably a few months to a year, my doctor has offered to give me a sick note and anti-d's.

I have 2 children, I'm a lone parent, I currently get CTC and CB

I think I would have to go on income support for a while but not sure if I can even afford to have time out, it would be for a very limited time as I would look for a job straight away.

- how much is income support? (I think this would just be for myself not the family-am I correct)
- would I get any sickness benefit? how much would this be
- I understand that I would probably get Housing and CT benefits

I just wouldn't even know where to start

Any advice would be most welcome and greatly appreciated.

Try and make an appointment at your local CAB, as they will be able to advise you on everything you need to know about your situation?

Your Lone Parent Advisor at the Jobcentre would be able to do all the calculations for you; whether on benefits or working. Have you checked with your university that you will be able to return after taking time out?

www.entitledto.co.uk use that site to see what you are entitled too, IS is £59.45 (think) and you will get 2 lots of child tax credit, CTB and HB also, not sure about sickness benefit, ring your local DWP for IS forms and the council for CTB and HB forms.

I haven't checked yet, I wanted to check that I can financially afford to take time out first otherwise I will just have to struggle through anyway.
