Claiming Carers allowance question

I am currently in receipt of IS due to illness but have recently started to feel a bit better. So as i know somebody who needs care help(That person is already receiving Attendance allowance but whose carer is about to retire next month)i was thinking of being her carer and claiming the carers allowance instead.
My questions are if i was to apply to be her carer, would the carers allowance benefit be all that i would be entitled to?Would i receive a top up as i believe its only around £48 a week?Would i still be entitled to get Housing benefit and council tax benefit if i was in receipt of Carers allowance?
Any advice appreciated.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

It depends on many variables, but assuming you live by yourself you would still receive income support. Your applicable amount would also be increased by about £27 as there's a premium for caring if you receive carer's allowance.
Any carer's allowance you receive (its about £48) would be deducted from your income support entitlement. Obviously if you are still receiving income support then your housing benefit and council tax benefit would be unaffected.
If you're not sure give CLS Direct a call on 0845 345 4345 and they can run a benefits calculation for you before you make a decision.Build a man a fire and he will be warm for a day.
