Do both .
If the owners don't help get insurance details off askmid and go to their insurers and ask them to look after your repairs/car hire etc.0 -
You can go to the police if you want, they probably will just send the owner of the vehicle a producer and assuming they answer it then thats it.
In terms of the damage to your vehicle you either need to approach the TP, their insurers or your insurers depending on how you want to proceed.0 -
my feeling is I would rather settle this without insurers involved! but going to the police will involve the insurers?ewwwww what is that...0

If this is as straightforward as you say, the third party may direct you to their insurers. Your preference to keep insurers out won't be of any concern.
Thus your insurer will be informed any way.0 -
ok yeah it is, i have footage from the car park at work and the lorry was reversing into my car! i guess will have to go through insurers, more straightforward!ewwwww what is that...0

ok things just got complicated, the lorry company is from holland!!!ewwwww what is that...0

Probably quicker and easier to put in a claim to your own insurer.
Dealing with foreign insurers is hard work to diy unless they have a UK office you can deal with.0 -
yeah i have no choice really, i will do thatewwwww what is that...0

Going to the police wont involve insurers. Police deal with criminal matters and insurers deal with civil matters. Unfortunately the police do occasionally forget this and try to give untrained advice on the civil matter and create headaches for claims staff.
If the company/ driver is foreign you are probably best leaving it to your insurers as multinational claims add a host of other complexities.0 -
ok great, thanks for the info...ewwwww what is that...0
