Shell, if you advertised your corsets towards the goth/gothic/alternative scene, there's alot of money to be made there. Folk on the alternative scene tend to spend alot of cash on good quality, unique items. It's maybe worth looking into.
(just like I used to. Spent £250 on a PVC Hobble dress I wore once)

have to say then if yours are the same quality as vollers you will make some decent money.

Start small - might be worth having a look at the alternative/goth forums for a few ideas.

A little website with some photos on

Ebay - made to measure corsets sell well on there.

Aren't the prisons full already? Or is it just to teach them how to handle their unruly students?

Seriously though, is it possible to buy stuff from charity shops for the material and then sell it on? (I know naf all about sewing so can't be much help).
I would imagine that there are quite a few people who would be willing to pay to learn how to do basic machining skills etc.

DD is 13 and for activity day at school she shunned the various days out and chose to do a cushion-making workshop. Basically lots of remnants and bits and pieces, and a class of girls making lovely fluffy/satiny/gingham cushions with appliqued hearts and stuff on them.

They all had a whale of a time, planning patterns, cutting out, learning to tack in place, and things that they have not been taught elsewhere.

Perhaps you could find some way of doing a couple of holiday workshops for children along these lines, or t-shirt designing or something?

I know you're looking for a job over the summer but what about next term? I know teachers tend to do a lot of work outside school time anyway but if you had a spare evening could you do an evening class for adults at a local school or college? The creative type classes always seemed to get plenty of interest at my college.

You could do some free advertising for your ebay shop on places like myspace or livejournal, or other communities. Advertise any goth corsets to the goth communities, and cute girly ones to girly communities and so on and so forth.
