I currently work as a textiles teacher and i'm trying to get myself out of major debts that seem to take up all my money, i've done exam marking and that will earn me some money, but i've got the 6 weeks coming up so i've got time (when i'm not planning) to earn some money but there doesn't seem to be any summer jobs! I found this website http://www.fully-researched-home-jobs.com/workfromhome.html and it looks dodgy but i'm desperate to earn some money! I did think about using my sewing skills but i just don't know what to do HELP!!!

My mum used to put cards up in local shops about clothing alterations, curtain making etc that always brought some money in.
I am not sure about that site, is there any fees up front? If so its a scam also usually if it sounds too good to be true it usually is!
How about speaking to local brideswear shops summer is busy do they need someone with good needlework skills?0 -
You could put up loads of cards locally - advertising services as rayday suggests, but also offering one to one teaching maybe? Or see if there'd be the market for you to hire a hall once a week to run a class yourself? I used to work with Sure Start down here & one really popular thing was a basic sewing course - so many people don't know how to sew on a button, repair a hem, make small adjustments to clothes etc.
You could also offer stuff like custom-made bags, toys, dolls clothes etc - advertise them as getting organised for Christmas! if you made up a few samples in cheap fabrics, then let people choose what they want.
The other option is to move away from the textiles and sign up with an agency for the summer to do whatever work you can - good admin skills are always needed through the school holidays as people go off on holiday.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

It is dodgy.
The information that you pay for will basically be telling you how to place adverts to sell the information that you've just paid for to other people.
There is no job it is just signing up more people to do the same thing that you've just done.
Any job that asks for money up front is a con!0 -
I think its a great idea to offer your sewing skills via local cards because you will have a steady stream of work to suppliment your income through out the year.0

I thought it might be dodgy! Thanks for the ideas! gonna go and put my thinking cap on

If i offered my 'services' would i have to register as self employed?0
-
why don't you make something like bags or clothing, something cheap to make, and then sell it on ebay.[0
-
because fabric isn't always cheap to buy
I can make corsets but not many people are prepared to pay the money for a handmade one 0 -
you would need to register as self-employed sunshine.
If the corset is well made and good quality materials, it will be worth the price. Vollers seem to do rather well!!
