Yes I did google it and I read it .

However companies who tape the edges will give a 10yr guarantee (Upvc) and 5yrs in timber . Feel free to give my supplier and ring in the morning and they will tell you they tape the edges as standard. If you wan't units supplied un-taped you have to state this on the order. Over the past 10 years I have had around 10 units fail, claimed on the warranty and they have replaced them without question FOC.St G's warranty only lasts 5yrs, my suppliers warranty is 10yrs and their units are edge taped so I will stick with my supplier...

Just because St G 's warranty states the tape must be reomoved to comply with the warranty doesn't mean other manufacturers warranties are the same.As mentioned previously I ask for my orders not to be taped but that is purely down to the waterproof tape used to seal the unit against the rebate.

IIRC my old supplier was Uniglaze and they also taped the edges.

Just to add "slim-lite DGU's have an aluminium perimeter tape that "Must not be removed"........

Slim-lite DGU's have ALuminium tape as it's part of the manufacturing process and not for handling purposes.
Saint-Gobain, Glass Solutions in the UK do a 10 year guarantee on their DGU's.(if you ask)
Of course your units were replaced no questions asked, your supplier knows you have to remove the tape and you state on your orders "no tape", obvious really.
I know a couple of guy's at your supplier so might give them a bell out of curiosity.
All DGU suppliers tape these days, what matters is what is written in the warranty document from your supplier, this was part of the documentation a new customer got when they signed up to a supply agreement.

Looking at the guarantee, this states that "on glass a 10 year guarantee is issued against all defects in materials or manufacture."

The only small print is "this comes from our suppliers, which in turn is passed on to our customers. Your attention is drawn to our Product Care and User Guide. Failure to follow the steps outlined in the general maintenance section may render the guarantee invalid".

There is nothing here about installation...so the tapes might be a grey area.

There was no Product Care and User Guide issued. This would, probably, only apply to the end user. Hence, I assume I am covered.

I will dig a bit deeper and see if my logic stacks up... or not!
