The dwp have lost ssp1 form I sent them.
My ex employer says as it's a legal document they can't send a duplicate.
Is there nothing I can do? I can't prove dates my ssp ended without it

Request a copy of your records from your employer under the data protection act.
http://ico.org.uk/for_the_public/personal_information
Contact the DWP and request that they pay you on the basis that your SSP ended on the dates you sent in - as your employer is not cooperating in sending the information, and that they request information directly from your employer.0
