My reading of it is this:
Suppose you have a £1000 limit credit card with £900 on it.
They tell your card company you have authorised them to take £75.
The credit card company therefore reduces your "available credit" to £25, but the money isn't actually gone from your account so they still only charge you interest on the £900.
If you go to a shop and try to buy something for more than £25 you may run into trouble though.0
