Yep, agree with Any about giving the same chance to Eastern European girls-I'm from there as well. Though I became an aupair at the age of 23 straight after graduation as there was no job available in my country without speaking at least two foreign languages - I was already quite good at german but my English was rubbish so it seemed a good decision to 'sacrifise' one year of my life in order to get a job. My brother simply didn't get into Uni, so having a gap year in London was the best that could have happened to him, he saved up enough money to get by for a year at home while studying and is planning to come back for the summer to stay with the same family and earn a bit of money.

We had a french girl a couple of years ago for a few months. She had dropped out of her year of uni and was waiting till the sept to start a different course for which she needed to improve her english. She went to english school and we just worked round what she needed and what I needed. Really she did very little - well nothing really with regards house stuff. At times it was like having another child in the house to look after. But she was there to 'baby sit' the kids when I needed it. So in that respect it worked well.
A family I know have had various male and female aupairs. They lay down the rules/jobs very firmly at the beginning. It really depends on the Au Pair you get as to how things will turn out. There are various web sites on line that you are able to join some for free to get an idea of whats what.

I would get another one if I ever needed one. But perhaps one from a different country?

good luck with it. Oh and yes the cost is around what you have said.
