E:31/07 Win 1 Of 5 Harry Potter Stamp Presentation Packs

Harry Potter is shaping up to oust an unlikely foe – The Beatles – as Royal Mail’s Special Stamps celebrating the books about the boyhood wizard go on sale on 17 July.
The Beatles stamps from Royal Mail in January 2007 broke international records for a single issue, with pre-order sales in excess of 300,000. However, massive public demand for Harry Potter is surpassing the pre-order numbers for stamps celebrating the Fab Four. This makes the Harry Potter collection the most eagerly anticipated Royal Mail stamp launch ever, with pre-orders received from all over the world including Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, India and the United States.

Selected Post Offices across the UK will even open early on 17 July to serve up a treat for Harry Potter fans who just can’t wait any longer for the stamps! An extra incentive to would-be witches and wizards across the country is that the first ten people to buy the stamps in each of the Post Offices will receive a goody bag containing magical Harry Potter products and previous Harry Potter books.

Available through a special licensing arrangement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Bloomsbury, Royal Mail’s seven 1st Class stamps are released just ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™, the seventh and final Harry Potter book. The stamps will feature the book jackets from the Bloomsbury editions of each of the seven Harry Potter books. A magical five-stamp 1st Class sheet will also feature the Hogwarts school crest and those of the four houses – Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.
Julietta Edgar, Head of Special Stamps, Royal Mail, said: “We expected this to be a popular Special Stamps issue as Harry Potter has legions of fans the world over, but we have still been astounded by the record-breaking demand for these wonderful stamps. Who would have thought that the Fab Four could be upstaged by the boy from Hogwarts?”
