Cheapest way to get some sun?

We have already had our proper holiday this year, I now have the first week of September off work and was thinking now that the summer has all but disappeared from uk, whether it is worth trying to go abroad for a few days.
We are a family of four, 2 adults, one three year old and one baby.
Could go away for three nights between 31/8 must be back by 7/09.
Don't want to spend more than 500 if pos - don't really mind where we go so long as it's sunny. Beach would be fine but equally a city break may work - although with kids would they be bored?
any ideas?

500...you'll need a bit more than that. 125 per person 3 nights including travel, accommodation and meals. I'd stick to the UK. Drive somewhere with a beach and find a cheap hotel. Although with the kids at that age I'd leave them with the grandparents and just the two of you go away.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

That's not a bad idea actually, not thought of that (the grandparents idea). Not sure they would cope though!
Was thinking as youngest is a baby will only need 3 seats on plane so could save some money there0 -
Have a look at the budget airline websites, easyjet, ryanair etc. and see where you can get cheap flights to. There seem to be a few around that time around the £30 each way mark, so might be do-able for around £200 for all of you. For 3 nights you should easily be able to manage with hand luggage only (not sure if you get a buggy free, or how they charge for infants).
Family room in a hotel at around £50-80 a night should be possible at that time of year, check on the likes of booking.com
Though personally I'd say the hassle of carting a baby and three year old abroad and back for just 3 days simply isn't worth it!0 -
Malaga is usually a good bet for some cheap sunshine in September. Loads of budget airline flights from regional airports and plenty of cheap hotels in the resorts along the Costa Del Sol.
In the past I've had some good flight+hotel deals from Alpharooms.0 -
Well I don't know about Sun but I've definitely found a way to do it on the cheap - staying at a relative's luxury caravan for free, it's in Wales so will probably pish it down but not going for a couple of weeks so I suppose there is some hope the british weather will improve - come on Sun! Only a couple of hours drive for us too, so much easier with small kids.0

I can't think of many worse things than being stuck in a cramped caravan with small children in a muddy field while its raining - but my brother, sister-in-law and their kids love it. I suppose everyone's different.0 -
I go away every september usually somewhere in spain or balearic islands, we have never had bad weather other than a little rain. I use low cost holidays, travel republic or u look you book I see which one is cheapest at the time. Just booked 5 nights AI costa brava for 2 for just over £500 inc transfers and 1 suitcase. That was with low cost holidays the flights are with ryanair and only cost £50 eachIf i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here
